Unposted Journals
Store future-dated Journals separately from posted Journals.
Overview
An Unposted Journal is a Journal with a future posting date - for example a Journal for a deferred payment. Once its posting date arrives, it is posted like any other Journal.
The Unposted journals setting controls where these Journals are held while they wait to be posted. When you enable it, future-dated Unposted Journals are stored in a separate Entity, Unposted Journals, rather than alongside posted Journals in the Journals Entity. When the setting is disabled, both current and future dated Journals are stored together in the Journals Entity.
The setting is a feature flag, toggled on the System Settings screen.
After you enable or disable the setting, allow up to 15 seconds for Fynapse to apply the change.
Behaviour when Enabled
Once a future-dated Journal’s posting date arrives, it is posted and moved from the Unposted Journals Entity to the Journals Entity, the same as it would be if the setting were disabled.
If you didn’t enable the Unposted Journals feature flag, i.e. both current and future dated Journals are stored in the Journals Entity, then the results of a Journal query will include future dated Journals, unless you specify a date filter excluding future dates.
If you enabled the Unposted Journals feature flag, i.e. future dated Journals are sorted into the Unposted Journals Entity, your query results will not be affected.

Permissions
Viewing the Unposted journals setting requires the Read system settings permission. Changing it requires the Change system settings permission. For more details, refer to Editor.

How to Enable Unposted Journals?
- Go to System Configurations > System Settings.
- Click the Edit button.
- Turn on the Enable unposted journals toggle in the Unposted journals section.
- Click the Save button to save the setting, or the Cancel button to discard your changes.
The Unposted journals section shows a status of ENABLED. Future dated Journals are stored in the Unposted Journals Entity from this point forward.
Allow up to 15 seconds for the change to take effect.
How to Disable Unposted Journals?
- Go to System Configurations > System Settings.
- Click the Edit button.
- Turn off the Enable unposted journals toggle in the Unposted journals section.
- Click the Save button.
The Unposted journals section shows a status of DISABLED. Future dated Journals are stored together with posted Journals in the Journals Entity.
