Journal Search

Use the Journal Search skill to find journals in Fynapse without needing to know a journal reference up front.

Describe the journal activity you are looking for in natural language — such as a date range, account, amount, entity, source, journal type, or dimension — and the skill translates those criteria into a search of your Fynapse data.

Install

Install the Journal Search skill from the Fynapse skill collection:

What you’ll get

Search results are returned directly in your conversation and include the information needed to identify and understand each matching journal, such as:

• Journal reference or ID
• Entity
• Core Date
• Business event
• Source
• Relevant amount
• A short description of the journal activity

The skill also states any assumptions it made when interpreting your request.

Where a pattern is visible across the results — such as activity being concentrated around month-end or associated with a particular entity — the skill may highlight it alongside the listing.

Excel listing

You can ask your AI to produce an Excel workbook containing the search results.

For example:

Create an Excel listing of these journals.

For larger result sets, your AI may also offer an Excel listing to make the results easier to review.

The workbook contains the journal data together with the search criteria, assumptions, and run information.

Things to know

Journal Search uses the Fynapse Core Date when interpreting period-based requests such as “posted in July” or “last month.”

For amount-based searches, an amount such as “over $50,000” is treated as the magnitude of an individual Journal Line by default. If you mean the total size of a Journal instead, specify this in your request.

The skill can interpret criteria that cannot be directly filtered by Fynapse. In these cases, it retrieves an appropriate set of journals and evaluates the remaining criteria as part of the analysis. Any such assumptions are stated in the response.

Journal Search works with posted Journals available through the Fynapse MCP Server. A Journal that has not been posted, or is in error earlier in the processing flow, may not appear in the results.
