Flux Analysis
Use the Flux Analysis skill to investigate period-over-period movements in Fynapse and understand what is driving material changes.
The skill compares balances between two periods, identifies material variances, drills into the underlying journals, and produces draft commentary explaining the movement.
Example prompts
Once installed, ask your AI to perform the analysis using natural language.
Run a monthly flux analysis
Run flux analysis for AdamWare for July vs June with $10k materiality.
Explain what changed
What changed between June and July for AdamWare? Show me the material movements and explain what drove them.
Analyse a specific area
Analyse the P&L flux for AdamWare this month compared with last month.
You can specify the periods, entity, materiality, currency view, or area of the ledger you want to investigate.
Install
Install the Flux Analysis skill from the Fynapse skill collection:
The Fynapse MCP Server must also be connected to your AI client. The skill uses the MCP Server to securely retrieve the Fynapse data required to perform the analysis.
What you’ll get
The analysis is returned directly in your conversation and includes:
- Current and prior period balances
- Material movements and percentage changes
- Key drivers behind each material variance
- Draft commentary explaining the movement
- Relevant methodology and caveats
Material variances are presented from largest to smallest movement, with the underlying journal activity used to identify the main drivers.
Variances and supporting journal data are retrieved from Fynapse, but explanations and draft commentary are AI-generated and should be reviewed before use in financial reporting or close processes.
Excel workbook
After completing the analysis, you can ask your AI to produce an Excel close-package workbook containing the results.
For example:
Create an Excel workbook for this flux analysis.
The workbook contains the flux analysis and supporting methodology information.
Things to know
By default, a variance is considered material when either:
- The absolute movement is at least $10,000, or
- The movement is at least 10% of the prior balance
You can specify different materiality criteria in your request.
Flux Analysis operates within a single accounting basis and currency view. If your Fynapse instance contains multiple accounting bases, your AI may ask you which one to analyse.
Balances are evaluated using the Fynapse Core Date. Because journals posted later can have an earlier Core Date, re-running an analysis for a previous period may produce different results if additional journals have subsequently been posted.
Multi-currency flux analysis requiring currency translation is not currently supported by this skill.
