Dimension Sets

A comprehensive guide to Dimension Sets in Fynapse.

Overview

This article provides information about Subledger Dimensions, attributes used to define the level of granularity at which the balances are aggregated.

What Is a Subledger Dimension?

Subledger Dimensions are balancing attributes, i.e., attributes used to define the level of granularity at which the balances are aggregated. Subledger Dimensions comprise Journal Line attributes defined in Journal Line Definition. For more details on Journal Line attributes, refer to the Journal Line Definition article.

Subledger Dimensions are divided into two categories:

  1. Systemic Subledger Dimensions, which are set by default as Systemic Subledger Dimensions and cannot be removed from a Subledger Dimension Set:
  2. Accounting Basis - denotes which type of Accounting Subledger Configuration, IFRS or GAAP, the balance is aggregated for
  3. Account - ensures the aggregated balances show movement between accounts
  4. Transaction Currency - ensures the balances are aggregated for one currency
  5. The defined Subledger Nodes - denote the entity by which balances are aggregated
  6. User-defined Subledger Dimensions - any field other than Systemic Subledger Dimensions, Amount fields, Core Date or Journal Types.

What Is a Dimension Set?

A Subledger Dimension Set is a group of Subledger Dimensions. A Dimension Set allows an organization to use a uniform set of attributes to aggregate Balances on a set level of granularity. Such Sets are assigned to Accounting Bases. One Subledger Dimension Set can be assigned to one or more Accounting Basis.

A Subledger Dimension Set consists of:

  • Name (string) - defined by the user, it has to be unique
  • Systemic Subledger Dimensions - set by default and cannot be removed from a Dimension Set
  • User-defined Subledger Dimensions - the defined attributes which can be selected for a Dimension Set
  • Description (string) - an optional text field.

Remember, each Dimension Set has to have a unique set of Dimensions. You cannot have two Dimension Set with the same list of defined Dimensions.
